The Joshua Tree Residency for Artists & Writers is a week-long, FREE residency for artists of all disciplines located in Joshua Tree, California.
Applications open May 1, 2026 and will close May 31, 2026.
Awarded residents will be announced on June 15.
Each selected resident will receive a $100 stipend and a 7-Day Standard Entrance Pass to Joshua Tree National Park.

About
The Joshua Tree Residency for Artists and Writers was founded in 2026 to provide artists from around the world with a self-directed, week-long residency in the heart of Joshua Tree, California. Open to creators across disciplines, the program offers dedicated time and space to pursue independent projects in an inspiring, obligation-free environment.
In its inaugural year, JTRAW will host four residencies, awarding each selected resident a $100 stipend and a 7-Day Standard Entrance Pass to Joshua Tree National Park.
Looking ahead, the organization plans to expand by partnering with additional homes throughout the high desert, creating a decentralized desert campus. The long-term vision includes a culminating presentation where visiting artists can gather, share work, and exchange ideas. At a time when the region has experienced an oversaturation of short-term rentals and a shifting local economy, JTRAW aims to return homes to active creative use while supporting homeowners and the broader community. By welcoming artists who will engage with the area and return with others, the residency seeks to foster sustained cultural exchange.
Where you’ll stay
Let the desert be your guide at The Cabins at Sunset & Vine in the heart of Joshua Tree, California. A nearby faraway place. Two stylish and restored mid-century modern cabins are a thousand miles from nowhere, yet just one walkable or ridable mile from the village, a 10 minute drive to the Joshua Tree National Park entrance, and about 15 to legendary Pappy & Harriet's. The extraordinarily private property is surrounded by Joshua trees, wildlife, desert vistas, mountain views, and peaceful solitude as far as the eye can see.
